Getting to E-5 Business Meetings from Bakirkoy, Istanbul

  • Updated:
  • 4 min read

If you have a business visit somewhere along the E-5 (D-100), the most predictable route is usually the Metrobus from İncirli when the address is near a Metrobus stop, or the metro when it is near an M1A stop. A taxi or car is worth it when you are taking samples or equipment to more than one address, but traffic on the E-5 during working hours makes journey times uncertain.

We are in Zeytinlik, Bakırköy: it is an 18-minute walk to the Metrobus and M1A stops in İncirli and 8 minutes to Marmaray Bakırköy station. This guide is about how to plan the day around appointments along the E-5.

Why E-5 traffic wrecks a plan

The E-5 is one of the main highways linking the west of the city with the east. Congestion climbs sharply at the morning and evening peaks, and an accident or roadworks can stretch a journey unexpectedly. The same distance can be quick one day and slow the next. Before you set off by car, check live traffic in a maps app.

The Metrobus runs on its own dedicated lane, so it is less exposed to car traffic; the M1A and Marmaray are rail systems and are not affected by road traffic. In exchange, you have to allow for crowded vehicles at peak times and the walk to the stop.

Five steps to plan the day

  1. Group appointments by direction. If you can, put meetings west of the E-5 and on the Asian side on different days.
  2. Leave a buffer for the first appointment. If you set off in the morning rush, allow for the walk to the stop (18 minutes), the wait and the crowds.
  3. Measure the last stretch in advance. Check on a map how long the walk from the Metrobus or metro stop to the appointment address takes.
  4. If you drive, ask about parking. Ask the company you are visiting in advance whether they have parking.
  5. Plan the return before the meetings end. Check the last service information and your return time during the day.

For guests arriving by car

If you are coming in your own car, ask about parking when you book and we will give you current information on the options nearby. If you have several appointments along the E-5 in one day, leaving the car behind for a day and trying the Metrobus and M1A helps you compare the uncertainty of the traffic for yourself.

If you are carrying samples, catalogues or equipment

If you have a heavy bag or equipment with you, the Metrobus at peak times can be tiring. On those days, taking a taxi to the first and last appointment and using public transport for the short hops in between is a good balance. The building has a lift, so moving equipment up to the apartment is easy as well. If you do not need to carry everything every day, take only what that day needs. On crowded vehicles, keep your bag in front of you and try not to stand by the doors.

Between meetings and in the evening

Every apartment has free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and its own kitchen, so you can check email between meetings and prepare the next day at ease. For a short solo business trip the Studio apartment (1+0) is practical. The One-bedroom apartment (1+1) gives you a separate bedroom and living room, keeping your living space apart when you work in the evening, and it suits teams of 2–3. Teams of 4–5 can share the two bedrooms of the Two-bedroom apartment (2+1). You can compare the apartments on the apartments page.

If your last meeting runs into the afternoon, you can ask for a late check-out; it depends on availability and should be requested in advance. For dinner, the centre of Bakırköy — Bakırköy Freedom Square (Özgürlük Meydanı) and the cafés and restaurants around it — is a 6-minute walk from us.

If you are staying a few days

Try the route once on your first day, on foot and on the vehicle, and you will know the next morning which entrance to use and which platform to head for. Crowds vary from day to day, so do not treat your first impression as fixed, and leave a margin before important meetings as well.

Common questions

Should I take the Metrobus or a taxi to a morning meeting?

If the address is close to a Metrobus stop, the Metrobus is usually more predictable at peak times. If you are carrying equipment or samples to several addresses, a taxi may be more practical; in that case leave a wide margin for traffic.

Can I check out late if my meeting runs over?

Late check-out depends on availability. If you tell us your schedule when you book or at check-in, we can confirm it in advance.
