Bakirkoy Walking Route: Zeytinlik to Incirli in 18 Minutes

The walk from our place in Zeytinlik to the Metrobus and M1A metro stops in İncirli is about 1.4 km, or roughly 18 minutes at a normal pace. That figure is based on a walking speed of about 75 metres per minute; with a suitcase, in a crowd or in the rain it naturally takes a little longer.

How do you get directions?

The most reliable method is to save the address in your map app and choose the walking route. When we confirm your booking, we can also share our location on WhatsApp if you like. If it is your first time on this walk, keep the route open on your phone and follow the signs as you approach the station entrances.

The Metrobus stop and the M1A stop are in the same area, but their entrances are separate. What to watch for on the way

• As you approach the E-5, vehicle traffic gets busier. Cross only at pedestrian crossings and traffic lights.
• The Metrobus runs in its own lane down the middle of the road, so the stops are usually reached by footbridge or underpass; factor in the stairs.
• On evening and late-night return trips, stick to well-lit, busy main streets.
• If you are relying on a map app, check your phone battery.
• Station entrances can be crowded during the morning rush; if you have a time to catch, leave a few minutes of slack.

With a suitcase, in the rain or at night

If you take a taxi, make sure the meter is running even for a short distance. Once you reach the door, things get easier: the building has a lift, so you go straight up to your floor with your suitcase, and the security cameras in the building are reassuring even late at night. If you will be arriving late, let us know your arrival time in advance; we plan late check-ins together.

A short trial run for your first day

If you have an important journey or meeting the next morning, try the walk once in daylight on the day you arrive. That way you see the pedestrian crossings and the entrances of the Metrobus and metro stops in advance, and on a rushed morning you follow a route you already know instead of hunting for the way. Note how many minutes it takes you to reach the stop. A time measured at your own pace is a more reliable plan than the general average.

Marmaray is closer: when should you choose it?

Marmaray Bakırköy station is closer to us than the stops in İncirli (8 minutes). If you are heading to points on the Marmaray line such as Yenikapı, Sirkeci or Üsküdar, or crossing to the Asian side through the tunnel, walk straight to Marmaray. Walking to İncirli makes sense if you are taking the Metrobus along the E-5 to an address, or the M1A to the bus terminal, to Merter or towards Zeytinburnu. Everyday needs within walking distance

Bakırköy Freedom Square, the centre of Bakırköy, is 6 minutes from us. Around it are İstanbul Caddesi — a pedestrian shopping street — the market, cafés and restaurants. Capacity shopping mall is also a 9-minute walk away. A short stroll takes you to the centre for dinner or shopping.
