Metrobus west and Asian side

Bakirkoy Metrobus Guide: Beylikdüzü and the Asian Side

  • Updated:
  • 4 min read

From Bakırköy, you board the Beylikdüzü-bound Metrobus at İncirli to head west along the E-5, and the Söğütlüçeşme-bound one to cross to the Asian side. If your destination is close to the Metrobus line, you ride without changing; if it is not, Marmaray or a route with one change is often the more sensible choice.

Our place is in Zeytinlik, about an 18-minute walk (1.4 km) from the İncirli Metrobus stop. Below we look at the two directions separately and also point out the cases where Marmaray is the more practical option.

First, check whether your destination is on the line

The Metrobus runs along the D-100 (E-5) highway between Beylikdüzü and Söğütlüçeşme. So the real question is not 'does the Metrobus go there?' but 'how close is my destination to the E-5?'. Find the Metrobus stop nearest your destination in a map app, and add the walk from the stop to the address to your journey time.

Yenikapı, Sirkeci and the airports are outside the Metrobus line. For those destinations it is quicker to start from Marmaray Bakırköy station, 8 minutes from us; for Istanbul Airport, use a taxi, a car or the Havaist buses.

Westbound: towards Beylikdüzü

If you board a vehicle marked Beylikdüzü at İncirli, you travel west along the E-5. The final stop in this direction is Beylikdüzü.

  • Practical for anyone going to a workplace, warehouse, shop or residential address in the western part of the E-5.
  • Check stop names and transfer options along the line on the current line map; for some addresses you may need to continue the last stretch by bus or taxi.
  • If your destination is around Bahçelievler, Ataköy-Şirinevler or Yenibosna, also consider the M1A metro, which stops at İncirli. Details are in the İncirli metro stop guide.

On the way back, board the Söğütlüçeşme-bound vehicle and get off at İncirli.

Eastbound and the Asian side: towards Söğütlüçeşme

A vehicle marked Söğütlüçeşme heads east along the E-5 and crosses the Bosphorus on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge to reach the Asian side. The final stop on the Asian side is Söğütlüçeşme.

  • If you are going to an address near the Metrobus line on the Asian side, this is a direct option.
  • If you are heading to central Kadıköy, taking Marmaray from Bakırköy to Ayrılık Çeşmesi and changing to the M4, or walking from there, takes about 40 minutes.
  • Üsküdar is on the Marmaray line; you reach it through the tunnel without changing.
  • Sabiha Gökçen Airport takes about 90 minutes by public transport with a Marmaray and M4 change, and 60–90 minutes by car.

Two example plans

  • An appointment on the west side: walk from our place to İncirli, board the Beylikdüzü-bound vehicle and get off at the stop nearest your appointment address. On the way back, take the Söğütlüçeşme-bound vehicle to İncirli.
  • An appointment on the Asian side: if the address is near the Metrobus line, cross the bridge on the Söğütlüçeşme-bound vehicle. If the address is around Üsküdar or Ayrılık Çeşmesi, walk to Marmaray Bakırköy station and go through the tunnel; use the same line on the way back.

When you plan the journey

  • The Metrobus gets very crowded during the morning and evening rush. If you can, travel outside those hours with a suitcase or heavy luggage.
  • On a long ride, be prepared to stand.
  • Istanbulkart is valid on the Metrobus; check the current fare on official sources.
  • Service intervals and the last departure time can change; check the current timetable before you set off.
  • To avoid boarding in the wrong direction, read the Beylikdüzü or Söğütlüçeşme name on the sign at the stop. If it is your first time using the stop, the İncirli Metrobus stop guide will help.

The evening return

If you are coming back by Metrobus, get off at İncirli and walk about 18 minutes to us. On the way back from the Asian side, if you are near a Marmaray station, another option is Marmaray to Bakırköy station and an 8-minute walk. The building has a lift and security cameras, so you go up to your apartment comfortably even on a late return. If you will be arriving late at night, let us know in advance.

Common questions

Should I go to Kadıköy by Metrobus or by Marmaray?

The Metrobus goes as far as Söğütlüçeşme on the Asian side. To central Kadıköy, take Marmaray from Bakırköy to Ayrılık Çeşmesi and change to the M4, or walk from there; it takes about 40 minutes.

Could the M1A be a better option than the Metrobus westbound?

If your destination is near Bahçelievler, Ataköy-Şirinevler or Yenibosna station, consider the M1A as well. Both lines stop at İncirli; check the map to see which stop is closer to your destination.
